Impetus has many years of experience in managing and mitigating liabilities associated with operational landfill sites. Additionally Impetus provides engineering services for capping and restoring historic landfill sites in preparation for the hand back of the licences or permits.

Recently, Impetus has successfully completed the following capping, restoration and habitat creation projects:
  • The capping, restoration and handback of ICI's Bran Sands landfill site on Teesside, this landfill, which extends to approximately 250 acres was capped with a composite capping system, reseeded and managed for leachate recovery
  • Creation of two alternative habitat ponds, with a total surface area of approximately 50,000 square metres, plus all planting and screening works to create mitigating habitat for migratory birds
In addition Impetus, as part of its integrated management service, manages the capping and restoration of the ICI's Cowpen Landfill site located on Teesside. As part of this work Impetus has agreed to create one of the largest habitat works in the UK. The project will deliver 1,350,000 square metres of capped landfill that will be restored creating a range of diverse habitats; in addition water bodies with a surface area of approximately 400,000 square metres will be created at the site. These works are 50% complete with completion anticipated in 2014.
